I’m Carole Eddington, AKA Vinakti. I was born to Chicago musicians, I married a musician, our two children became musicians, and our two grandchildren are heading in that direction. But we also excel in other art forms. This family is about The Arts, Silliness, and Magical Spiritual Discoveries.

I am a singer, educator, and truth seeker. But I’ve chosen a career as a poet, writer, and author. I hope you enjoy reading some of my works and that you will engage with me in communication about artistic creation. Because the more artists we rehabilitate and connect with each other, the close we’ll be to the magnificent Renaissance that I want to see ruling this planet!


The Story Behind “Vinakti”

Many years ago, I was in Los Angeles, getting an auditing session (Scientology counseling, a very precise process,) and I recalled having been a witch in another life. I was confused, because I knew I hadn’t been evil. I was a wisewoman type. So I asked my auditor if I could look up the word “witch” in the dictionary. He looked it up for me but then said he needed a better dictionary to find the deepest derivation of the word. He pulled out another dictionary, and the derivation turned out to be “vinakti,” a Sanskrit word that is the most basic derivation of words like wit, wisdom, witch, and wizard. It means, literally, “he sets apart.” I had learned that the true definition of intelligence is the ability to distinguish similarities and differences, and so that made sense. Wisdom is a matter of sorting things out and seeing the differences. “Vinakti! What a cool word!” I said. I had the idea it would make a great name for a band! But instead, I adopted the word as my “spiritual name,” since I was only “Carole Eddington” in this life! I started using it as my handle in social media and other places. Later, a friend pointed out to me that “vinakti” is also the derivation of “victim” and also means “he who is set apart.” So I decided that it is the victim aspect of myself that I am in the process of undoing by rehabilitating the wizard aspect of myself!
